Sam · city council
hi!! I see I’ve been summoned
S
Sam · city council
and yes, I drive over that thing too
so can you just get it fixed?
why is it taking so long?
S
Sam · city council
I wish. I’m one vote out of seven
S
Sam · city council
it’s #212 on the repair list. the list moves as fast as the budget
S
Sam · city council
roads, parks, buses, schools. it’s all the same pot of money, and we vote on how to split it every spring
who decides how it’s split?
do we get any say?
S
Sam · city council
the council does, in public meetings. almost nobody comes
S
Sam · city council
yes! there’s public comment at every budget meeting
D
Dana
wait, those meetings are public??
S
Sam · city council
anyone can come. when a whole street shows up, we notice
and who put you on the council?
how’d you even end up there?
S
Sam · city council
whoever voted in the last city election
S
Sam · city council
I ran, people voted. that’s the whole job interview
M
Marcus
so the people who pick the council… are us?
…wait
so it’s me.
…so we picked who fixes the pothole?
S
Sam · city council
pretty much, yeah
D
Dana
it’s us.
